Well, we made it back from all our travels thus far. Left the oldest and youngest with grandma and grandpa in Texas. It is sooo weird only having 1 again. He is talking so much more. I guess he could not get in a word edgewise with the other 2 monopolizing the conversation! We got a call from my MIL last night. Seems her basement is completely FLOODED from the rains in Terre Haute, Indiana. She lost all but a handful of mementos. Tony is having a hard time not driving out there right now to help her. She just had back surgery about 3 weeks back, and is in a neck brace for a couple more weeks. I am trying to convince him to ask her to come out here for a few weeks so she will fight the urge to overdo it, and reinjure her healing back. Tony is trying to remind her that it is "just stuff", that you can't take it with you when you die, but I think that is hard for her to understand. See www.wthi.com for videos of the flooding. Tony and I have decided to sponsor an International Military Student family for the year. This is something the post families and the community do to help integrate the many international students attending the Command and General Staff College (CGSC). We picked a family from Saudi Arabia with kids close to our ages, and will be getting together for the first time tomorrow on Fort Leavenworth. I am excited and nervous at the same time! We had unofficially sponsored several international families from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait when we lived at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They lived all around our neighborhood, and I was selling Avon (an international hit, I must say). Ended up becoming good friends with one wife in particular who had a family of 6 living in a 3 bedroom duplex on the post. Her mom was from Syria, dad from Saudi, so she cooked food with a flair I had never seen before. She introduced me to some of her Middle Eastern delicacies, and I introduced her to a bread machine, and other evils of western civilization! It was a match from the start. We shall see what mutual relationship comes of this sponsorship! I am still waiting to find out if we can get the kids into on-post schools for the upcoming school year. I am told that we are wait-listed till school begins because the incoming CGSC class is the BIGGEST CLASS EVER held at the fort! Great!!!!!!!!! It is wonderful for all the rentals that were available. They now are ALL GONE in a number of days. But this is bad for the rest of the facilities in and around the fort. Sometimes I wonder if the POWERS-THAT-BE have any sense to make sure the infrastructure is there before they decide to allow the BIGGEST CLASS EVER to come to Ft. Leavenworth. I am sure we will have some major growing pains for the next year or so. Just put me in charge, I tell ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
